Bayambang Warriors Enter Quarterfinals

Bayambang Warriors will try to muscle their way out in the coming weeks against the powerhouses of other districts after they grabbed a quarterfinals spot at the ongoing Governor’s Cup (also known as Pogi’s Cup).

The Warriors placed 3rd in the Central Pangasinan conference with a 7-2 win-loss standing, which was automatically given a quarterfinal berth.

According to Reddy Mina, Bayambang Municipal Sports Council coordinator, the Warriors are now preparing and training for the quarterfinals’ “sweet 16” group, and are expected to be pitted against much tougher opponents.

The cagefest was divided into four conferences—Central, Western, Eastern and Northern. The four conference teams are as follows: Central Conference–Bayambang, Malasiqui, Basista, San Carlos City, Binmaley, Urbiztondo, and Calasiao; Western Conference–Bolinao, Anda, Bani, Alaminos City, Burgos, Sual, Labrador, Bugallon, Aguilar and Lingayen; Eastern Conference–Natividad, San Quintin, Urdaneta City, Sta. Maria, Tayug, San Manuel, Asingan, San Nicolas and Rosales; Northern Conference–Mangaldan, San Fabian, San Jacinto, Alcala, Bautista, Manaoag, Sto. Tomas, Villasis and Laoac.

The basketball tourney, which reeled off on December 17, 2016, was conceptualized mainly to not just hone the skills of the players but to build their characters as well. (Bayambang PIO/Media Affairs Office)
