Bayambang Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao’s private foundation, the Kasama Kita sa Barangay Foundation, Inc., (KKSBFI) was declared as third runner-up in the National Literacy Awards in a ceremony held at SEAMEO-INNOTECH, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City on December 8, 2016.
In behalf of Mayor Quiambao and his foundation, KKSBFI Managing Director and ex-Councilor Levin N. Uy accepted the award personally handed by Department of Education Undersecretary Dina S. Ocampo, head of the National Literacy Council.
As per DepEd Memorandum No. 81 s. 2016, the 2016 National Literacy Awards aims to “recognize the best practices in literacy, which help alleviate poverty, provide livelihood, address welfare needs, promote freedom, and make education facilities accessible.”
KKBSFI won the award in the Outstanding Literacy Program category.
Asked for a comment on the award, Uy said, “We never expected this. When we started in 2004, we never imagined being in a competition of any kind. Our main purpose was to serve our constituents, especially the poorest of the poor, by providing them opportunities for livelihood training and other related activities.”
“This award will serve as an inspiration to go further and strive for more in serving the disadvantaged,” he added. (Bayambang PIO/Media Affairs Office)
