After five months of competition, the 2nd Balon Bayambang Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament has come to a conclusion with the Sapang Tigers taking the championship crown. They bested Brgy. Cadre in their Best-of-3 series for the championship, 2-1. They were led by the Tournament MVP, Christian Jimenez, who unleashed a barrage of three pointers during the game clincher.
In Game 1 of the series, Sapang staved off Brgy. Cadre’s furious 4th quarter rally to win the game. During the game, Gerald Marcellana, a Mythical 5 awardee, twisted his knee that sidelined him for the rest of the series.
Game 2 was a different ballgame as Cadre beat them to the tune of 90-85. Ronald Arellano (Mythical 5 member), led them with his razzle-dazzle playmaking skills. Cadre controlled the 1st half of the game, taking a 22-point lead heading to the break. Sapang gave them a run for their money during the 3rd and 4th quarters, but it was not enough to win the ballgame.
Game 3 featured a neck-and-neck battle as they were all fighting for the championship at stake. It was in the waning minutes of the 4th quarter when Cayabyab (jersey #15) and Jimenez (jersey #10) of Sapang hoisted back-to-back triples that proved to be the turning point of the game.

Mythical 5 Members: Ronald Arellano (Cadre), Christian Jimenez (Sapang), Gerald Marcellana (Sapang), Richard Pahinag (Cadre), Kevin Cayabyab (Bical Norte)
MVP: Christian Jimenez (Sapang)
2nd runner-up: Brgy. Bical Norte
1st runner-up: Brgy. Cadre Site
Champion: Brgy. Sapang
Meanwhile, in the volleyball competition, Nalsian Sur won against Buenlag 2nd, 3-1.
This event was led by the Municipal Physical Fitness Sports Development Council chaired by Mr. Bernardo Jimenez and co-chaired by Dr. Joel T. Cayabyab in coordination with the Bayambang LGU and the Pista’y Baley 2018 Executive Committee.
