One of the main highlights of this year’s fiesta celebration is the staging of ‘Labi’y Kalutan, Liket tan Gayaga’ last April 4 on Pangasinan State University’s (PSU) parade grounds, in commemoration of the 3rd anniversary of Bayambang winning the Guinness World Record for Longest Barbecue Grill.
According to Bayambang LGU’s designated economic czar, ex-Councilor Levin N. Uy, this replaces the former Kalutan ed Dalan annual street grilling party due to the many disadvantages of staging the event in the streets. This time around, the Kalutan was held at PSU to take advantage of its wide open space, thus the name change.
Loud, roaring laughter and cheers reverberated in the area as local talents and stand-up comedians Ensiong and Gusting performed funny acts.
Also, for the first time in Bayambang, famous Pinoy Fliptoppers were brought over, such as Abra, Apekz, Loonie, Ron Henley, Sinio, and Badang, together with DJ Klumcee.
The group captured the attention of the youth, who could not help but flock towards the center stage to get nearer their idols as they exchanged hysterically funny putdown jokes in the freestyle rap battle that has taken YouTube by storm. The rowdy throng lost no time raising their smartphones to take selfies and videos live.
In his speech, Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao said Bayambang’s world record feat symbolizes reinvention and the town’s transformation itself, as well as the possibility that we can achieve anything through cooperation and unity so long as we share a common goal.
