LGU Sponsors Mural Painting Seminar-Workshop


The local government has sponsored a mural painting workshop on March 6-7, 2017 at the Royal Mall by inviting over no less than the president of the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP), Fidel R. Sarmiento, together with two other professional painters of the AAP, Rolan Galpo and Robert Fernandez.

Amateur artists of all ages from various schools and barangays of Bayambang attended, hunkering down on their work using art materials provided by the LGU.

The Bayambang Municipal Council for Culture and the Arts (BMCCA) led by its Chairman Januario Cuchapin, together with Peregrino Larang, helped facilitate the two-day workshop.

Another first in the history of the town, the mural painting workshop was held in preparation for the Mural Painting Contest slated on March 18-25, 2017 using as canvas the extended wall of the dike along Agno River in Poblacion.

According to the BMCCA, the contest is open to all bona fide residents of Bayambang 13 years old and up, with each entry having two additional participants working as partners to represent their respective barangays, schools, offices, etc. The estimated total number of entries is 107.

Participants will be instructed to portray anything or any subject about the cultural aspects of Bayambang, such as its traditions, values, products, history, arts, music, dances, literature, etc. The murals will be executed on subdivided spaces of the extended wall, with each space measuring 1.5 meters X 3 meters. The participants shall pick the subjects they would portray by draw lots.

The judging of entries will be on March 26, 2017 based on the following criteria: 20% originality/creativity, 20% relevance, 20% artistry, 20% visual impact, and 20% workmanship. Awarding will follow at 2 pm at the Municipal Covered Court.

The prizes at stake are as follows:

P15,000 – 1st Prize

P10,000 – 2nd Prize

P8,000 – 3rd Prize

P6,000 – 4th Prize

P4,000 – 5th Prize
