Bayambang Police Turns Over Drug Surrenderers to MADAC

The Bayambang Municipal Police Station headed by Police Superintendent Cirilo B. Acosta, Jr. has successfully turned over 590 drug surrenderers to the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) last Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Municipal Covered Court.

Chaired by Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao, Bayambang’s MADAC is a government-mandated special body composed of the PNP Chief of Police as Vice-Chairman, with the DepEd District Supervisor, DOJ Municipal Judge, Municipal Health Officer, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer, Municipal Public Information Officer, NGOs and a religious sector representative as members.

The move, according to Acosta, was ordered by the PNP chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa pursuant to Dangerous Drug Board Regulation No. 4 series of 2016 stating that the PNP shall turn over the voluntarily surrendering drug users and dependents to the local anti-drug abuse council.

Quiambao, on the other hand, gladly accepted the responsibility to watch over the surrenderers even as he lauded the effort of the PNP for its operation against illegal drugs.

Further, Quiambao called for cooperation, requesting the barangay captains present to help him monitor the “volunteers” and urged them to activate their respective Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADACs) to help assist the PNP in their monitoring and clearing operations.

“I am batting for a 100% drug-free Bayambang,” Quaimbao added.

Quiambao said he is planning to put up a rehabilitation center in the town to help the “volunteers” reform and prevent them from using illegal drugs again.

It can be recalled that the local chief executive launched a livelihood program for Bayambangueños and the surrenderers to help them have the skills necessary for employment.

Quiambao also took the opportunity to clear himself over the massive drug raid and search warrant last November in the town. “There was no political motive on my part,” Quiambao remarked.

“Wala akong kinalaman sa nangyaring malawakang raid. Wala akong pinapanigan,” Quiambao added. (Bayambang PIO/Media Affairs Office)
