“Let’s remove Bayambang from child malnutrition list!” – MCTQ

Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao challenged his fellow Bayambangueños to remove Bayambang from its position as the region’s number one town in terms of child malnutrition, during the launching of his supplemental feeding program last Monday, December 12, at St. Vincent Catholic School.

The program has, as its theme, “First 1000 days ni baby pangalagaan upang ang malnutrisyon maiwasan.”

The newly elected local chief executive said that, upon assuming the office last July, he learned that the town was number 1 in the region and number 4 nationwide in child malnutrition.

“How did this happen?” Quiambao lamented.

Quiambao said he collaborated with Kasama Kita sa Barangay Foundation, Inc. and the Department of Agriculture to launch the supplemental feeding program to eradicate child malnutrition in the town.

“We should put the welfare of our children first,” Quiambao added.

Quiambao said he allocated P6.4 M to help solve the problem even as he ordered the Municipal Nutrition Action Office and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office to oversee this activity.

Aside from this, Quiambao also sought the assistance of the Department of Agriculture to distribute seedlings to encourage the townspeople to engage in backyard gardening to have an additional income and as one way for them to produce food for their family. Provincial DA representatives were present to give a short lecture and demo for this purpose.

The children received free lunch and medical check-up at the end of the launching program.
