SVFP JUBILEE DOOR: A Bestowal from Above
by Joseph U. Salopagio
Enter the door and be given a life-changing experience.
The St. Vincent Ferrer Parish (SVFP) received a special grace with the opening of its Jubilee Door last March 27 in celebration of 2019 as Jubilee Year 2019.
Entering the Jubilee Door grants the devotee plenary indulgence, as long as he or she fulfills certain conditions on the same day: have a confession, attend mass and take holy communion, pray for the intentions of the Pope, and pray the Nicene Creed. According to the doctrine of the Catholic Church, granting plenary indulgence is equivalent to the remission of one’s temporal punishment due to forgiven sins.
The main entrance door of the SVFP Church serves as the Jubilee Door.
The Jubilee Door is an amazing gift to the churches who have stood tall and proud for a long period of time. It is a symbol of the people’s devotion to keep worshipping and praising God. Subsequently, it is only proper that the St. Vincent Ferrer Parish should earn one.
SVFP’s Jubilee Door is completely the work of the Church alone. It is supported by the determination of the parishioners to continue serving in it, in hopes that it will go on to survive another era, so that the future generations can marvel at the handiwork of those who came before them and be inspired to bear fruits in the person of new, more determined Christians.
The Jubilee Door was designed to fit the style and theme of the magnificent St. Vincent’s Statue, which was unveiled in Brgy. Bani on April 5. The estimated cost of the Door is P170,000 – a high amount, that’s certain. But the elegant detailing of the Door speaks for itself, a proof that every peso spent had not been put to waste.
On the door is the insignia of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan, signifying that the SVFP Church is under its jurisdiction. The shepherd of the Archdiocese, Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas, did the honors of first knocking on it.
Rev. Father Allen O. Romero was the one who took initiative of having a Jubilee Door, thinking it was about time the SVFP took the honor.
The Jubilee Door, it can said, is a representation of a local church life at its peak, that is, one brimming with souls filled with joy and holiness.
To make the idea of Jubilee Door a reality, the Archbishop had to make a formal request to the Vatican. An approval amounts to recognition by the whole Catholic Church. Once a parish’s Jubilee Door opens, it must be accompanied by a mass.
Fr. Vishnu R. Valdez said that the celebration of the holy mass is a perfect opportunity for people to encounter God.
Everyone, especially in Pangasinan, was invited to this significant event, so it was no surprise that priests from the Archdiocese, the Archbishop, the mayor and other top officials of the town, and other personalities were present on the big day.
Fr. Valdez remarked, “We are opening this Jubilee Door because our parish has reached its Jubilee year. But even so, the door isn’t the one that should be put in the spotlight. The main event of this historical remark is the people, the parishioners, the faithful Christians because they are the ones who devoted their lives to this Catholic mission, the ones who are loyal to the church. The Jubilee Door is for them. It is for their spiritual growth, [particularly their ability to give] mercy and love. Because God gives his love abundantly and selflessly – that is why the Jubilee Door is created. The people who [would avail of the graces attached to it are bound to] witness his abounding mercy in the church.”
