On Monday, October 22, Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao addressed a group of people who gathered outside the Municipal Hall to protest regarding the land property in Barangay Bani where the Saint Vincent Ferrer Prayer Park is located.
The group, led by Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas and Anakpawis spokesperson Rodolfo Natividad, was invited to the Balon Bayambang Events Center for a formal dialogue with Mayor Quiambao, Kasama Kita sa Barangay Foundation Managing Director Levin Uy, Municipal Legal Officer Atty. Raymundo Bautista, Jr., Municipal Assessor Annie de Leon, Municipal Consultant on Agrarian Affairs Pascual Manalang, and Bani Punong Barangay Rodelito Bautista.
Among the estimated 50 protesters, less than half are directly affected by the matter. One of the concerns raised is how the claimants were asked by CAT Realty representative Engr. Abelardo Palad to move out on or before December of this year. CAT Realty is the current legal owner of the land and Mayor Quiambao is currently in talks with both parties.
Mayor Quiambao offered to pay for a lawyer for the claimants and scheduled another dialogue with the affected residents, this time in the presence of Engr. Palad, for them to finally reach a settlement.
Before facing the protesters, Mayor Quiambao talked to the media in his office to give clarifications regarding the same issue.
