The Bayambang Rural Health Unit (RHU) II, in partnership with Region 1 Medical Center – Dagupan, has conducted another mobile blood donation program last Thursday, December 8, at Wawa Elementary School.
Dubbed “Save a Life, Give Blood,” it aims to help meet the current demand for blood not only in Bayambang but in other towns as well.
Leading the donors were members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Bayambang, municipal employees, and individuals from 30 barangays under the jurisdiction of RHU II.
RHU II chief Dr. Adrienne Estrada enumerated the benefits of donating blood. She said that our blood changes every 3-4 months, so donating blood induces the body to create new blood, and new blood means new energy. “They say that donating blood also decreases the chance of cancer,” she said.
“Aside from the benefit of knowing your own blood type, hemoglobin level, and blood pressure, and losing almost 650 calories through blood donation, donors can also help save lives especially those who are in dire need of blood. One bag can help save 3-5 lives,” Estrada added.
“Blood donations can be used for maternity services and in the treatment of dengue, malaria, and other diseases that need blood transfusion.”
In gratitude and as a come-on, the RHU II team offered free haircut, free medical check-up and free back massage to the blood donors.
With RHU I and II efforts combined, a total of four blood donation drives have already been conducted this year.
