302 Join Fun Run Against Illegal Drugs

Three-hundred-two participants joined the fun run at the Municipal Hall staged Saturday morning, December 3, as part of the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Bayambang’s campaign against illegal drugs in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU).

They consisted of municipal employees, policemen, firefighters, students, barangay officials, and former drug dependents-turned-surrenderers.

The advocacy run, dubbed “Takbo Kontra Ilegal na Droga,” was a 3-kilometer race that started from the Municipal Hall going to Pangasinan State University’s (PSU) 2nd gate, then exiting to the PSU main gate, passing along the streets of M.H. Del Pilar, Juan Luna, and Rizal Avenue, and finally going back to the Municipal Hall for the finish line.

Bayambang PNP chief, PSupt. Cirilo B. Acosta, Jr., welcomed the participants even as he thanked them for supporting the cause of this activity. “Maraming salamat sa pagpunta niyo at sa pinapakita niyong suporta sa aming program kontra sa ilegal na droga,” Acosta added.

Municipal Councilor Philip Dumalanta, being the Chairman of the Committee on Youth Affairs and Sports Development, said the activity also aimed to promote health and fitness. “Ang activity na ito ay isang project ng LGU para matulungan ang ating mga kabataan na umiwas sa mga illegal and crime-related activities,” Dumalanta said.

The first 200 participants who arrived at the venue were given free T-shirts. The top 10 winners of the race in two categories (15-year-old-and-above and 15-year-old-and-below) were also given cash awards of P500 each plus certificate. The youngest and the oldest participants were each handed a certificate and a medal. The rest of the finishers also received certificates.

Another activity held after the fun run was the Zumba dance, which many among the participants visibly enjoyed.

After the fun run and Zumba dance, the participants were treated to a breakfast.
