Hundreds of children, parents and day care workers amassed inside the Municipal Covered Court as the Bayambang Local Government Unit (LGU) hosted the 24th National Children’s Month for the 3rd District of the province last Monday, November 15, 2016.
Dr. Letty Ursua, who spoke in behalf of Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao, said that the local chief executive believes in advancing the cause of children though this kind of celebration because it will give them the opportunity to showcase their abilities and inspire them to develop their full potential as various competitions were organized for the event, such as ‘draw and tell,’ singing, and folk dance contests.
“As your Mayor, I assure you of my support in advancing and protecting the rights and well-being of our children,” Ursua said.
In line with this year’s theme, “Isulong: Kalidad na Edukasyon Para sa Lahat ng Bata,” guest of honor and speaker Mary Clare Judith Phyllis A. Jose-Quiambao or Niña Jose-Quiambao said that providing quality education for all is crucial in ensuring that children live a good life, thus preventing them from dangers and wrongdoings.
As the chair of the Local Council for Women here, she said that as an advocate for women, she believes that mothers will play a key role in determining the interest of their children in the future.
Because ensuring quality education goes hand in hand with fighting poverty, she also recalled that the LGU launched the Sustainable Livelihood Program, an assistance given to poor families of the town to sustain their daily needs and gradually help them out of poverty.
Aside from treating the entire audience with ice cream, she also sang the “Greatest Love of All” by Whitney Houston, which is an inspirational song for her, dedicating it to the parents and children.
