Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao and the Philippine National Police-Bayambang, together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), staged the first-ever Anti-Illegal Drugs Summit in town held at the Royal Mall on October 5, 2016.
The summit was attended by some 850 barangay officials from the 77 barangays of Bayambang.
The summit aims to strengthen the linkages of government agencies and the different sectors in the fight against illegal drugs.
Quiambao said the summit also aims to involve actively local government law enforcement agencies and the community and to re-strengthen the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADACs) to effectively fight the proliferation of illegal drugs in Bayambang.
Bayambang Police Officer-in-Charge, Police Superintendent Cirilo Acosta, Jr., bared that from July to October, the PNP arrested 16 drug personalities and received a total of 560 surrenderers, 165 of whom are now actively participating in the Kasama Kita sa Barangay Foundation, a livelihood program spearheaded by the local chief executive.
“As the OIC of Bayambang PNP, gusto kong pasalamatan si Mayor Quiambao sa kanyang strong support na ibinibigay sa amin para ma-attain namin ang aming misyon,” Acosta said.
Quiambao challenged Bayambangueños to make Bayambang drug-free. “Magtulungan tayo to make Bayambang [a town with] zero drug users in six months,” he added. (PIO Bayambang/Media Affairs)
