BPRAT leads Backyard Gardening and Grand Pakain in Sanlibo

To cap off the week-long celebration of the first anniversary of Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao’s declaration of the Revolution against Poverty, the Bayambang Poverty Reduction Action Team (BPRAT), with the help of the Department of Agriculture, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Municipal Nutrition Action Office, Ecological Solid Waste Management Office, Local Council of Women, and the officials and residents of barangay Sanlibo, initiated a Backyard Gardening activity to promote and show the benefits of having a backyard garden. Through convergence, the departments and stakeholders involved were able to plant bell pepper, tomato, eggplant, bitter melon, squash, and radish, among other seeds and seedlings, on backyard gardens of 12 households in barangay Sanlibo.

Following the Backyard Gardening activity, the BPRAT spearheaded the Grand Pakain wherein more than 600 students from the Sanlibo Day Care Center and Catalino Castañeda Elementary School were given arroz caldo with chicken and egg, and bread using funds collected from the previously held Padyak Laban sa Kahirapan.

Sanlibo was chosen as the beneficiary of the projects because it was identified as one among the top 10 poorest barangays in Bayambang. Officials from the Local Government Unit will return to the households regularly to monitor the progress of the planted seeds and seedlings to ensure the sustainability of the project.

The activities held in the past week are just the beginning of the completion of a 10-year plan specifically designed to eradicate poverty in Bayambang, and with the help of every sector and stakeholder, the dream of being a poverty-free municipality can be realized sooner than we think.
