Chief Barangay Tanods gathered for a meeting

The chief barangay tanods from the town’s 77 barangays were gathered for a meeting at the Balon Bayambang Events Center on August 3.

Municipal Chief of Staff Atty. Raymundo B. Bautista Jr. informed the tanods — formerly called Civilian Volunteer Officers — that Mayor Cezar Quiambao has donated uniforms for them, plus whistles, batons, and flashlights, to aid them in the exercise of their sworn duties.

Atty. Bautista went on to remind them of their mandate as “agents of persons in authority, that is the Punong Barangay and the Barangay Kagawads.” “Ang inyong uniporme ay simbolo ng tiwalang ibinigay sa inyo ng inyong Punong Barangay,” he said, “kaya kayo ay inaasahang magpatupad ng batas at tumulong sa inyong mga kabarangay.”

MLGOO Romarie Soriano welcomed the tanods led by their president, Leonardo S. Garcia Jr. (Buayaen), and underscored their role as “katulong ng barangay officials at PNP sa pagbantay sa peace and security at sa panahon ng sakuna.” “Kayo ay parte rin ng BADAC o Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council, kaya sana ay maging role model kayo sa inyong mga barangay.”

PNP officer Vina de Leon detailed to the tanods some of the municipal ordinances — and as per directives from the national government — that they are expected to enforce in their barangays:

NO SMOKING IN PUBLIC PLACES (Municipal Ordinance No. 26, series of 2017)

ILLEGAL GAMBLING (EO #13; RA 9287)

10 PM-5 AM CURFEW FOR MINORS

ETC.
