Bayambang National High School (BNHS) student researchers made another stunning win in not just one, but two, science fairs – and both on the national level.
The first one is during the National Science Quest held Feb. 9-11, 2018 in Baguio City, where Timothy Fernando P. Sagun won first place in the “Life – Individual” category, besting 100 contenders out of the 300 that joined the competition. Sagun’s winning science investigatory project is titled “Anti-epileptic property of banaba (Lagestroemia speciosa Linn.) methanolic leaf extracts against maximal electroshock-induced white mice (Mus musculus),” with Mr. Darwin F. Benitez as research adviser.
As if that was not enough, another BNHS student researcher, Noellah Jeannica R. Macam, won as grand champion at the 1st National Science and Engineering Fair on April 7, 2018 also in Baguio City, besting 14 other grand winners, many of whom are from science high schools around the country. Macam’s project title is “Neodynium magnet in memory retrieval: The effects of high-static magnetic exposure in enhancing spatial learning and working memory in albino rats.” Her adviser is also Mr. Darwin F. Benitez
BNHS Principal, Dr. Mary Ann J. Payomo, led her wards as they presented their twin victories to Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao and Vice-Mayor Raul R. Sabangan at the Events Center last April 16. “Ipagpapatuloy nyo yan. Malayo ang mararating nyo,” said a visibly impressed Mayor Quiambao.
