@LGU Sportsfest 2017 Cheerdance Competition and Awarding Ceremony: Team Finance Wins

The LGU Sportsfest 2017 ended on a high note as the participating teams showed off their talents in cheerleading and the winners claimed their well-earned awards.

The closing ceremony on November 9, 2017 started off with a parade around town where the teams displayed floats that impressed Bayambangueños who witnessed each group’s creative output. The parade started and ended at the Balon Bayambang Events Center where the Cheer Dance Competition was held.

Winning the awards for Best Muse and Best Adonis are Binibining Bayambang 2017 Ray Ann Magno and OIC Municipal Administrator Atty. Raymundo Bautista Jr. from Team Executive. Both of them paraded around town wearing costumes fit for indigenous royalty. Team Finance won the award for Best Float with their superhero-themed truck.

In his opening message, Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao said that the competition signaled unity among the different LGU departments. He added, “Sa kahit anong paligsahan, mayroong panalo, mayroong talo. Sana huwag maging dahilan ito upang kayo ay mag-away-away.”

In the Cheerdance Competition, Team Finance impressed the judges and the audience the most with their white and blue superhero costumes and routine which are in accordance with the event’s theme, “Kasil tan Abig na Laman, Sekder na Balon Bayambang.” Their highly original routine and creative costume, in addition to their props composed of balls and rackets, led to their victory in the Cheer Dance Competition.

Trailing Team Finance was Team Executive with their simple yet sophisticated dance routine which saw even its most unexpected members on the dance floor. Claiming third place was Team Medical with their cheers highlighting the recent developments in Bayambang.

The board of judges was composed of eight-time Bayambang Pista’y Baley Streetdancing Competition winning coach Larry G. Solomon, Pangasinan State University (PSU) Bayambang Campus Director for Sports Dr. Ramil L. Dacal, PSU PE teacher and renowned musician Melanie Romero-Junio, and Bayambang Local Council of Women President Niña Jose-Quiambao.

Gracing the event with their presence were Vice-Mayor Raul R. Sabangan, Councilors Amory Junio, Martin Terrado and Philip Dumalanta, and Municipal Administrator Atty. Rodelynn Rajini A. Sagarino.

Aside from having the Best Float and winning the Cheer Dance Competition, the Finance Team, which is composed of members from the Budget, Treasury, Market and Accounting Departments, also dominated in different sport events, which led to their overall victory in the Sportsfest. Team Finance is followed by Teams Social and Executive, respectively, in the overall tally.

Champions for the basketball and volleyball competitions were given their respective trophies, and winners for the board games and the individual and dual sports were also recognized.

Mayor Quiambao assured the participants that they were all winners in the competition.

Local Youth Development Officer Dr. Joel T. Cayabyab said that the event aimed to strengthen LGU employees physically and mentally. According to Cayabyab, “Ang daan patungo sa isang progresibong Balon Bayambang ay nag-uumpisa sa kalakasan ng kanyang workforce.”

Jimenez announced that this is just the first sports event for the month of November as the Inter-Barangay Basketball and Volleyball competitions and the Pogi Cup Inter-Town Basketball Tournament will also be opening this month.
