The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in cooperation with the Public Order and Safety Office and the Bayambang PNP staged an earthquake and fire drill in a school setting at the Liahona Learning Center Inc. along Roxas St. last February 28.
The advanced activity was in line with the upcoming series of month-long activities in observance of Fire Prevention Month this March.
This year took the theme “Buhay at Ari-arian ay Pahalagahan, Ibayong Pag-iingat sa Sunog ay sa Sariling Pamayanan Simulan,” so as to show support for the advocacy program of the government towards a progressive community – one educated in fire safety and actively involved in fire safety educational campaigns.
According to BFP Senior Fire Officer 3 Raymond Palisoc, the activity aims to educate citizens at an early age on the dangers of fire in our environment. Further, Palisoc also taught the students and teachers on the proper usage of fire extinguishers in case of a fire outbreak in their vicinity.
Because earthquakes often cause fire incidents, MDRRMC OIC Genevieve U. Benebe and her staff took the opportunity to give important information on earthquakes. They also gave a demonstration of the precautionary measures to take in order to protect oneself during an earthquake.
The following day, March 1, was punctuated by a BFP motorcade around town in the morning, attracting the attention of residents with loud siren calls. (Bayambang PIO/Media Affairs Office)
