10 Basketball Teams, 8 Volleyball Teams Enter Quarter Finals


Ten basketball teams will try to out-maneuver one another as they enter the much-anticipated Palarong Bayan Quarterfinals, which was formally opened last February 25 at the Bayambang National High School Gymnasium.

Team Warding will represent District 1, San Gabriel 2nd will play for District 2, Amancosiling Sur for District 3, Dusoc for District 4, Caturay for District 5, Tococ East for District 6, Sapang for District 7, Mangayao for District 8, and Zone VI for District 9. The Bayambang Juniors Team will compete as the guest team. The winners will compete for the Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament Championship Game slated on April 3, fiesta week, at the by-then newly renovated Municipal Covered Court.

Councilor Philip Dumalanta, Chairman of the Committee on Youth Affairs and Sports Development, led the Sangguniang Bayan in welcoming the players and visitors, and encouraged the players to practice good sportsmanship.

Ms. Palarong Bayan 2017, Louise Anne Calimlim, expressed her elation over her role as the sports ambassadress of the town, which will serve as the catalyst in promoting a healthy lifestyle especially in engaging in sports activities.

Vice-Mayor Raul Sabangan congratulated the teams for reaching the quarterfinals, even as he added that reaching that far was already an achievement. Vice-Mayor Sabangan also reminded the players about exercising good sportsmanship and behavior.

Municipal Physical Fitness and Sports Development Council Executive Director, Bernardo Jimenez, expressed support for the sports festival, lauding Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao’s staging of the event.

Meanwhile, eight volleyball teams were qualified for the quarterfinals. These are the teams of Nalsian Sur, Sapang, Zone V, Hermosa, Buenlag 2nd, Banaban, Langiran and Manambong Sur. (Bayambang PIO/Media Affairs Office)
