Municipal Librarian Leonarda Allado has announced that the Bayambang Municipal Library received a box of free literature books from the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) on February 4, 2017 at Jose T. Espino Alumni Center in Pangasinan State University-Bayambang Campus.
According to an earlier (October 13, 2016) letter sent by National Artist and KWF President Virgilio Almario to Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao, the Komisyon was donating their own publications to the municipality of Bayambang under the Aklat ng Bayan program. “Nawa’y maging kasangkapan ninyo ang mga publikasyong ito sa pagpapalawak ng karanasang pagkatuto ng mga mamamayan ng Bayambang,” Almario wrote.
The aim of the project is to “mapalaganap ang wikang Filipino bilang wika ng karunungan.”
Together with other municipal librarians from other selected towns of Pangasinan, Allado personally received the books from KWF’s OIC Komisyoner Purificacion de Lima, whom she noted is an alumna of Bayambang National High School. “Maraming salamat, Komisyoner De Lima, sa pagbigay ng mga aklat para sa aming Bahay Aklatan,” Allado said.
Among the treasure trove of 47 books donated by KWF are Filipiniana works such as Sawikaan: Isang Dekada ng Pagpili ng Salita ng Taon, Panitikan ng Rebolusyon(g) 1896, and KWF Manwal sa Masinop na Pagsulat. There is also an impressive collection of Filipino-translated world classics, from Charles Dickens’ Isang Pamaskong Awit to Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali.
Meanwhile the LGU is scheduled to transfer the existing library collection at an undisclosed date to the original site of the Bayambang Water District and build a new modern public library there. (Bayambang PIO/Media Affairs Office)
