Bayambang RHU 1 successfully held a whole-day, community-wide mobile blood donation drive on August 26 at the Municipal Covered Court as part of their Social Responsibility Project. A total of 70 volunteers from various sectors showed up to donate blood. This number was more than the expected 50 volunteers targeted for this year.
The event’s theme is “Be a Hero, Save a Life” – “an expression of our common desire to enliven the spirit of heroism that runs in the blood of every Filipino,” to quote Municipal Health Officer Dr. Paz F. Vallo, in her letter addressed to all potential donors.
In the same letter, Vallo enumerated the benefits of being a blood donor: having a personal health check-up; knowing your own blood type, hemoglobin level and blood pressure; stimulating the bone marrow to produce younger and active cells (change oil mechanism); helping meet the current demand for blood; and attaining a sense of altruism.
The blood drive was held in cooperation with the Region I Medical Center – Blood Bank Dagupan City Chapter.
